if I have the money (i hope: somewhere around september) i will
place my first order here. also for R9 but now with a thicker neck
and a compound radius neck, and some other gimmicks:D:D a
hell of a lot cheaper than gibsons....(no offence against
gibson...)

This guitar should be closer to an original '59 than any
"reissue". R9s are simply copies themselves, and not
entirely accurate ones either. I'm hoping this guitar will
get me as close as possible to a NOS '59 (but of course
without the "G" word on the headstock) ;)

Yes, its very old (more than 50 years old!) Brazilian Rosewood. It will look quite a bit darker after its been oiled...

The guitar is looking VERY nice indeed. :)
Pasha is a mastercraftsman, without a doubt!
I'm not too keen on the fingerboard colour as it is in the pics, so I'm REALLY hoping to see it darken after the oiling.  Keeping my fingers crossed...

Ben, I agree. its very nice. but the fingerboard has to be a bit
darker

michael, does brazilian rosewood sound different from normal
indian/rio rosewood? or feel...?

no, "Brazilian' rosewood doesnt sound or feel any different.

Oftentimes it doesnt even LOOK any different, although most of it does have characteristic orange/yellow stripes alternating with black veins. I have seen about ten different shades so far, ranging from almost black, to very pale.

Its been prized over the years for its dramatic figureing, though it got a lot of use in the early part of the last century simply because it was cheap, readily available, and easily exploited (to the point where it was nearly EXTINCT, and harvesting for export was banned )

ok. so, as I see it now, its being used nowadays, " just for the
name" right? and if i have a really nice piece of rio-rosewood,it
wouldn't make a difference? (except for YOUR wallet? :D )

Yes, many people want it for the 'bragging rights', to some extent... plus a lot of people just want to have some rare, old wood on their guitar :)

ok....

well, i prefer rare old wood in my guitars too. but only some nice
mahogony and nice maple. i don't care too much about old
rosewood. but i do care about old mahogony, strange twist in
my mind, perhaps (very likely :D ) but i do like it....dont know
why.

There is debate whether a braz board has any sonic difference to Indian, with strong opinions on either side of the argument (I guess we know where Michael stands ;)).  I don't know anyone who has taken their fretboard off and replaced it with the other to document the difference!  The major reason people use it on replica guitars is that it is vinage correct.
Brazilian has a distinctive smell to it, and the braz-equipped guitars I've played have a waxy feel that indian rosewood doesn't have.  They are very difficult to distunguish from each other -- the pores on braz tend to be longer than indian, but it can be tricky.  Colour is too varied to be reliable.

Orpheo,
Thanks for your compliments on the guitar!  Bashmakov and the rest of the Shamray crew deserve the utmost praise.  Hopefully I'll get a photo of Pavel with CS-0059 (the artist with his art :))...
Re pickups:
I decided to give the Chernishevs a try  -- Seems like a cool idea to put russian hand-made pickups in a russian hand-made guitar! ;)
Both will have nickel covers, but I specified to have the bobbins zebra (black on adjustable pole pieces side, cream on the slug side) just in case I feel like uncovering the pups later on.
I think zebra pups on a burst are superb...

Ben your LP is looking awesome.  Really like the color. The brazillian will sound different because of the type of oil that occurs in it natuarally.  The density is also different.  Age and how it was stored too.  I know a guy who sells a boatload of Real deal Braz thats 50 plus old and there is not much he doesn't know about fingerboards.  www.colonialtonewoods.com His name is Steve Roberson great person to deal with.

The board will darken up with oil and from the finger sweat.  Your finger board looks great don't sweat it.   I am 41 and was not able to see a real 58-59 when new.  I would imagine that all the fingerbaords like Michael said come in mant different colors and darknesses.  Steve Deals in very huge quantities so the price would be a lot different.  Again he deals in just wood supplies.  A guitar maker does not have the liberty to have 1000 Braz boards laying around.  People got to get paid.

I am currently studying in Dublin, Ireland, and was on the "green isle" when I placed my Shamray order, so I guess that's why Michael noted "Ireland" in my guitar title.
