In 1980, because of the movement of synthesizer, people thought that status of bassist may fall down, so all manufactures were asked to make bass guitar which can make fat and rich low bass sound. In this kind of situation, MC924 was started to sell in Japan. Especially, Ibanez MC924 was produced in the period when Ibanez itself was the most healthy from the point of company management. There are many opinion for design itself, but fat and rich super low sound is still famous even in 2006 all over the world. Only 1 problem is because of the height of bridge (because of angle of neck to the bridge), and because of unique low tension of strings, it is difficult to set string height in super low position. So if bassist likes super low string height, this MC924 can't be his ideal bass guitar. Actually in the beggining of 1980's, there are few bass which can set strings in super low position. I remember that only YAMAHA BB2000 can have such super low position. So many of technical bassist prefer BB series than Ibanes MC924 in that period. Neck width of MC924 is very narrow like Jazz bass. And in the high fret too, neck seems to be narrow than other bass. And finger board doesn't have taper like Fender, so you feel very flat fret in this bass. Most famous Characteristic of MC924 is 1. Tension of string is very weak 2. Pick up has same characteristic like EMG (LOW NOISE and WIDE RANGE) 3. Long sustain and very fat low sound This character can be understood in the situation that manufacture have to compete with synthesizer bass which started to appear in the musical scene. 1985 model was the last model of MC924 which had active equorizer. After that second model was sold. That is also active bass, but 9V battery was used for impidance adjustment. In market, this first model is more expensive than second model. Tanaka 8-916-659-2837 |
