He often uses textures and rhythmical patterns derived from break-beat, glitch and hip-hop. Sergey finds new use and meaning for these elements in the context of instantly composed music, where time signatures and subdivisions morph freely into various, often rather unconventional patterns. Sergey was born in Moscow, Russia in 1988. He became a part of the local experimental music scene when in 2008 he co-founded Jazzator, a band that plays new art music with elements of jazz and break-beat. He also participated in various cross-discipline productions that combined music with dance, theatre, cinema and visual art. Sergey worked with renowned musicians such as Sergey Letov and Zulya Kamalova, and collaborated with award-winning theatre directors Ivan Vyrypaev and Kirill Vytoptov and a filmmaker Mikhail Mestetsky. Primarily a self-taught musician, Sergey moved to Austria in 2012 and studied jazz drumming privately and at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria after 8 years of being an autodidact drummer. Sergey currently resides and works in Moscow and also regularly visits Vienna to perform with colleagues from the local scene. |
