Congratulations Lennart, on the birth of your new Shamray Custom Shop instrument (serial number CS 0150)! pickups not very overwound, I just want them slightly hotter than normal ones because i don't want to lose much strat caracter, I want a nice compromise between a typical 60s strat sound and output to match the p90! another note, all musicman axis necks are unfinished, or with a satin finish, i want a gloss nek finish because i prefer the feel of that, i have very sweaty hands. the headstock should still match the body> satin finish i will also add the pictures mentioned for the other people on this baord to look at |

normal strat pickups are only about 6K... so if you want them to match the output of a HOT 14K P90, (typical P90 is only 7-9K as well!) then they will indeed have to be VERY overwound! Probably you will have to lower the HOT P90 quite a bit, if you want to acheive volume balance with any 'normal' strat single coil... |

the neck is nice indeed. as far as i know, skunkstripes are usualy walnut. but michael is on holiday now, so he can't tell us... perhaps mr. shamray, or bashmakov will tell us?? (i hope i spelled the crafter's name correctly...) |

the 'sealer' coat actually gets sanded COMPLETELY off in the next step, so the stain has no problem penetrating the wood. Its job is only to fill deeper than normal pores in the wood, so that pigment doesnt accumulate in them when it gets the color coat. It seems awfully labour intensive (and it is!) but it does ensure a smoother, more even finish in the long run... |

No kidding! unfortunately, your beautiful guitar has been put ON HOLD again Which is a shame, as i was very much looking forward to play-testing it this week (and you even more so, im sure!) This afternoon, I personally ordered another bridge for you direct from the Hipshot factory in New York - and they will send it out "Global Priority Mail". So, if it doesnt get stuck in customs (cross your fingers!) then it could be here in a week or so... |

Het is heel simpel ... de bouwtijd die je verteld wordt moet je met een hele grote korrel zout nemen! Dat voorkomt teleurstellingen. Ik doe sinds mijn 1ste de "verwachte" bouwtijd maal 2 en dat klopt tot nu toe aardig. Verder heeft Paul volkomen gelijk hij is niet voor niks aan zijn 4e toe! ( wat me er aan herinnerd dat ik achter loop :P ) | |

im sending the pickup back this evening, Im not under the impression that theyre as hot as my p90, whats the DC resistance of them? btw. i screwed the middle pickup way down because i only need it for the parallel settings and its in the way when i pick (used to playing les pauls). | |

I dont know the exact resistance, we just made them "hotter" than a normal strat (in keeping with the workorder requirement that they still sound strat-ish) The first 'overwound' set we made was just WAY TOO QUIET by comparison, this second set keeps up about as well as can be expected... In order to make them as hot as that (extremely hot) P90 you sent us - they would have to be monsterously overblown! (pretty much impossible to cram that much wire on a strat bobbin)
