 Ëîíäîíå â âîçðàñòå 88 ëåò óìåð Ïåòð Ëüâîâè÷ Çèíîâüåâ — âûäàþùèéñÿ áðèòàíñêèé èíæåíåð è èçîáðåòàòåëü ðóññêîãî ïðîèñõîæäåíèÿ, îäèí èç ïèîíåðîâ ýëåêòðîííîé ìóçûêè, ñîçäàòåëü çíàìåíèòîãî ñèíòåçàòîðà VCS3, êîòîðûé â ñâîåì òâîð÷åñòâå èñïîëüçîâàëè ìóçûêàíòû Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Who, Äýâèä Áîóè, Kraftwerk, Yes, Depeche Mode, Áðàéàí Èíî, King Crimson, The Who, Tangerine Dream, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Æàí-Ìèøåëü Æàðð è äðóãèå.
Ïåòð Çèíîâüåâ (Peter Zinovieff) — ïîòîìîê ñòàðèííîãî ðóññêîãî äâîðÿíñêîãî ðîäà Çèíîâüåâûõ, åãî äåä Àëåêñàíäð Äìèòðèåâè÷ áûë äåéñòâèòåëüíûì ñòàòñêèì ñîâåòíèêîì, øòàëìåéñòåðîì, ãðàæäàíñêèì ãóáåðíàòîðîì Ñàíêò-Ïåòåðáóðãà. Îòåö Ïåòðà — Ëåâ Àëåêñàíäðîâè÷, âûïóñêíèê Ïàæåñêîãî êîðïóñà, áûë ïðåäâîäèòåëåì ïåòåðãîôñêîãî äâîðÿíñòâà, ïðåäïðèíèìàòåëåì, çåìëåâëàäåëüöåì, ÷ëåíîì IV Ãîñóäàðñòâåííîé äóìû. Ìàòü — êíÿãèíÿ Ñîôüÿ Äîëãîðóêîâà, îäíà èç ïåðâûõ ðóññêèõ æåíùèí-àâèàòîðîâ, ïðèíèìàëà ó÷àñòèå â ñðàæåíèÿõ Ïåðâîé ìèðîâîé âîéíû. Ðîäèòåëè Ïåòðà Çèíîâüåâà âñòðåòèëèñü óæå â Ëîíäîíå, â ýìèãðàöèè. Èõ áðàê áûë íåäîëãèì, íî îñòàâèë ïîñëå ñåáÿ äâóõ ñûíîâåé — Ïåòðà è Éåíà.
Ïåòð Çèíîâüåâ çàêîí÷èë Îêñôîðäñêèé óíèâåðñèòåò, áûë ïîäàþùèì áîëüøèå íàäåæäû ãåîëîãîì, èçó÷àë ñïÿùèå âóëêàíû â Øîòëàíäèè, åçäèë ñ íàó÷íûìè öåëÿìè íà Êèïð è â Ïàêèñòàí, íî óæå â ñòóäåí÷åñêèå ãîäû óâëåêñÿ çâóêîâûìè ýêñïåðèìåíòàìè è êîíñòðóèðîâàíèåì ðàäèîïðèåìíèêîâ.
 íà÷àëå 1960-õ Ïåòð ñîçäàë ó ñåáÿ äîìà â Ëîíäîíå ñòóäèþ, îáîðóäîâàâ åå ñïèñàííîé ñ âîåííûõ êîðàáëåé ðàäèîòåõíèêîé, à â 1965-ì ïîòðàòèë ãèãàíòñêóþ ïî òåì âðåìåíàì ñóììó â £4000 íà ïîêóïêó êîìïüþòåðà DEC PDP-8, ïðîäàâ äëÿ ýòîãî äèàäåìó èç áèðþçû è æåì÷óãà — ñâàäåáíûé ïîäàðîê îòöà åãî æåíû Âèêòîðèè. Äèîäíî-òðàíçèñòîðíûé PDP-8 áûë ðàçìåðîì ñ õîëîäèëüíèê, ó íåãî íå áûëî æåñòêîãî äèñêà, íî îí îáëàäàë 4 Êá ïàìÿòè. Çèíîâüåâ, ïî åãî ñëîâàì, ñòàë ïåðâûì ÷àñòíûì îáëàäàòåëåì òàêîãî êîìïüþòåðà.
Îáîðóäîâàííàÿ êîìïüþòåðîì ñòóäèÿ ïîçâîëèëà Çèíîâüåâó çàïèñàòü åãî ïåðâûé ìóçûêàëüíûé àëüáîì «Ýëåêòðîííûé êàëåíäàðü», ãäå îí äàë âîëþ ñâîåé áåçãðàíè÷íîé ôàíòàçèè. Ïî ñëîâàì èíæåíåðà è ìóçûêàíòà îí ïåðâûì èçîáðåë ñýìïëèðîâàíèå, çàïèñûâàÿ è îáðàáàòûâàÿ ñàìûå ðàçíûå áûòîâûå çâóêè, ïðåâðàùàÿ èõ â ïîäîáèå ìóçûêè. Çèíîâüåâ äàæå ïîäíèìàëñÿ íà áàøíþ ëîíäîíñêîãî Áèã Áåíà, ÷òîáû çàïèñàòü çâóê åå ÷àñîâ.
×òîáû îáåñïå÷èòü ôèíàíñèðîâàíèå ðàáîòû ñâîåé ñòóäèè, Çèíîâüåâ îñíîâàë êîìïàíèþ Electronic Music Studios (EMS), êîòîðàÿ ñòàëà ïðîèçâîäèòü è ïðîäàâàòü èçîáðåòåííûé Çèíîâüåâûì ìîíîôîíè÷åñêèé ñèíòåçàòîð EMS VCS 3.  ýòî âðåìÿ â åãî ñòóäèþ ïðèõîäèëè Ðèíãî Ñòàðð è Ïîë Ìàêêàðòíè, êîòîðûå áûëè óâëå÷åíû ýêñïåðèìåíòàìè ñ ýëåêòðîííîé ìóçûêîé. Ìàêêàðòíè èñïîëüçîâàë îáîðóäîâàíèå, ñîçäàííîå Çèíîâüåâûì, âî âðåìÿ ðàáîòû íàä Carnival of Light (https://youtu.be/A5p6z8QAVYU)
Êîìïàíèÿ EMS äëÿ ðåêëàìèðîâàíèÿ âîçìîæíîñòåé ñâîèõ èíñòðóìåíòîâ óñòðàèâàëà ïñèõîäåëè÷åñêèå êîíöåðòû, òàê ïîïóëÿðíûå â êîíöå 1960-õ. Çèíîâüåâ ýêñïåðèìåíòèðîâàë íå òîëüêî ñ ýëåêòðîíèêîé, íî è ñ ïóáëèêîé â çàëå, çàñòàâëÿÿ åå ó÷àñòâîâàòü â ñîçäàíèè çâóêîâ (øåëåñòåòü ôîëüãîé, íàïðèìåð). Îí ãîâîðèë, ÷òî òîãäà âñå áûëè óâåðåíû, ÷òî î÷åíü ñêîðî êîìïüþòåðû êàðäèíàëüíî èçìåíÿò ïðåäñòàâëåíèå î ìóçûêå, ñòàíóò ñî÷èíÿòü åå ñàìè ïî çàäàíèþ ÷åëîâåêà.  ýòî âðåìÿ ñèíòåçàòîðû Çèíîâüåâà èñïîëüçîâàëèñü ãðóïïîé Pink Floyd — îíè áûëè ÷àñòüþ îáîðóäîâàíèÿ ïðè çàïèñè ñàóíäòðåêà ê ôèëüìó More, àëüáîìàì Ummagumma è Atom Heart Mother. Äýâèä Ãèëìîð èñïîëüçîâàë, êóïëåííûé â 1972 ãîäó ñèíòåçàòîð EMS Synthi Hi-Fli, â ñîçäàíèè âåëèêîãî àëüáîìà The Dark Side of the Moon.
Áèçíåñìåí èç Çèíîâüåâà áûë íèêàêîé è EMS îáàíêðîòèëàñü äîâîëüíî áûñòðî, â êîíöå 1970-õ, óñïåâ âûïóñòèòü íà ðûíîê äâåíàäöàòü ìîäåëåé ñâîèõ ñèíòåçàòîðîâ. Çèíîâüåâ ïåðåäàë ñâîþ âåëèêîëåïíî îáîðóäîâàííóþ ñòóäèþ Íàöèîíàëüíîìó òåàòðó, íî îíà ïîãèáëà âî âðåìÿ íàâîäíåíèÿ.
 1980-1990-õ Çèíîâüåâ çàíèìàëñÿ ñàìûì ðàçíûì: äèçàéíîì, ïðåïîäàâàíèåì, ñîâìåñòíûìè ïðîåêòàìè ñ àâòîðîì êîìïüþòåðà ZX Spectrum Êëàéâîì Ñèíêëåðîì. Çèíîâüåâ óäèâèòåëüíûé, íåâåðîÿòíî îäàðåííûé ÷åëîâåê, îí ïîñòîÿííî ÷òî-òî ïðèäóìûâàë, ñîçäàâàë, èçìåíÿë ïðèâû÷íûå âåùè. Îí ñ÷èòàë áóìàæíûå äèíàìèêè íåñîâåðøåííûìè è èñêàë íîâûå èñòî÷íèêè äëÿ ïîëó÷åíèÿ çâóêà. Ó íåãî áûëà âèäåîêàìåðà, êîòîðàÿ ïðè íàâåäåíèè íà ðàçíûå îáúåêòû, ãåíåðèðîâàëà íîâûå çâóêè. Îí ñäåëàë ñåáå êëàâèàòóðó, ãäå ó êàæäîé êíîïêè áûëà ñâîÿ ôóíêöèÿ. Îí ïðèäóìûâàë ñâîè ãàììû, ñ÷èòàÿ, ÷òî â îêòàâå äîëæíî áûòü íå âîñåìü çâóêîâ, à ïÿòüäåñÿò øåñòü, íàçûâàÿ òðàäèöèîííóþ íîòíóþ ïàðòèòóðó «òèðàíè÷åñêîé», çàòðóäíÿþùåé ðàáîòó ñ íîâûìè çâóêàìè.
Ïåòð Çèíîâüåâ — ýòî íåçàóðÿäíûé ðóññêèé òàëàíò, âûðîñøèé íà áëàãîäàòíîé áðèòàíñêîé ïî÷âå. Êòî çíàåò, ÷òî áû ñ íèì áûëî, ïîÿâèñü îí íà ñâåò â ÑÑÑÐ? Ñòàë áû îí çíàìåíèòûì êîìïîçèòîðîì, êàê Ýäóàðä Àðòåìüåâ, èëè ïðîïàë áû â áåçâåñòíîñòè, èñïûòàâ íà ñåáå ñóäüáó äåòåé «èç áûâøèõ»? Õîðîøî, ÷òî åãî ïàïà è ìàìà âñòðåòèëèñü â Ëîíäîíå — âîò ýòî ìîæíî óòâåðæäàòü îïðåäåëåííî.

Äà. Îí è åãî êîìàíäà îïåðåäèëà ñâî¸ âðåìÿ íà íåñêîëüêî äåñÿòèëåòèé.
 1972 ãîäó - Synthi AKS ñ ñåíñîðíîé äèíàìè÷åñêîé êëàâèàòóðîé è öèôðîâûì(!) ñåêâåíñîðîì íà 256 ñîáûòèé, ñòîèìîñòüþ âñåãî â 450 ôóíòîâ ! Synthi 100 ñ âîçìîæíîñòüþ ìîäóëèðîâàòü ïî÷òè ëþáîé ïàðàìåòð êàæäîãî ñâîåãî óñòðîéñòâà, ëþáûì ïàðàìåòðîì äðóãîãî !  òî âðåìÿ, è â ïîñëåäóþùåå, êîãäà áëîêè êîíêóðåíòîâ êîììóòèðîâàëèñü êó÷àìè ïðîâîäîâ, â êîòîðûõ òîíóëè èñïîëíèòåëè, EMS èñïîëüçîâàëè ìèíèàòþðíóþ ïàò÷ ïàíåëü 64Õ64 , â êîòîðîé áûë èäåàëüíûé âèçóàëüíûé êîíòðîëü ! Êîðî÷å ýòî áûë íàñòîÿùèé ñèíòåçàòîð, â òî âðåìÿ êàê îñòàëüíûå ïðîèçâîäèòåëè òàê è íå âûøëè ñ óðîâíÿ èñïîëíèòåëüñêèõ óñòðîéñòâ. Êðîìå òîãî îíè ðàçðàáîòàëè ñàìûé ëó÷øèé â ìèðå âîêîäåð. Ýòè ðåáÿòà áûëè ñóìàñøåäøèìè ýíòóçèàñòàìè ýëåêòðîííîé ìóçûêè è åñòåñòâåííî î áèçíåñå íå äóìàëè. Ìíå ïîñ÷àñòëèâèëîñü ñ íèìè ïîîáùàòüñÿ, è, íàïðèìåð, â 1974 ãîäó îäèí èç íèõ ðàññêàçûâàë, ÷òî íà÷èíàåò çàíèìàòüñÿ....., íó, â îáùåì ,èíòåðíåòîì. Ïîòîì îí , ïðîëåòàÿ èç ßïîíèè, ðàññêàçàë, ÷òî ðàçðàáàòûâàë äëÿ îäíîé ôèðìû èíñòðóìåíòû ñ FM ñèíòåçîì, ïîòîì åãî èäåè ëèöåíçèðîâàëèñü â Synclavier !

A Brief History of Valley Audio

Allison Research, Allison Labs, Allison Automation, Valley, Valley People, Valley International, Valley Audio Products, Valley Audio: The many names of an organization whose history reads like a soap opera.
Founded in Los Angeles in 1969, and originally named for the wife of the company's founder, recording engineer Paul Buff, Allison Research was among the first companies engaged in what at that time was an emerging industry: dynamics processing. The company's KEPEX (keyable program expander) and GAIN BRAIN (variable ratio limiter) became benchmark products, spawning countless imitators and finding homes in most of the world's premier recording studios and in live sound systems for all sizes of venues from the smallest clubs to the largest stadiums.
Buff and his cohorts led in the development of the voltage controlled amplifier (VCA) circuitry that ushered in a new era in recording studio and live sound automation. To this day, the (Valley) TA-101 VCA is standard
equipment on a wide range of signal processing equipment from a whole slew of manufacturers. A few of Valley's competitors are fond of trumpeting their "breakthrough VCA's" which actually are much the same as what Valley has been producing since 1969.
Somewhere along the line the Buffs moved to Tennessee and Allison Research became Valley People. Paul, and partners Bob Todrank and Norman Baker, planned to develop a sort of artists colony for pro sound types.
Uh, yeah. OK, so Stringbean Holler didn't exactly become a mecca for the world's audio engineers. The Buffs went splitsville in 1983. The company began to unravel. Still, in the intervening years, Valley People became known for designing and building some very sophisticated audio products. Their customer list included The Grateful Dead, Chet Atkins, Jimmy Page, Frank Zappa, George Benson, Todd Rundgren, and countless other music industry luminaries.
Mergers, changes in management, and general weirdness conspired to derail Valley's fast track to success. By the late '80's, a reputation for late deliveries degenerated into one for not making deliveries at all. Ironically, even as Valley's fortunes continued their downward spiral, its products grew in prestige.
Chapter 11 bankruptcy became Chapter 7 bankruptcy and it looked like the end of the line for Valley...
