Nothing But The Facts About Singing

The voice is a muscle, and like any muscle in the body can grow and get stronger even into your 70’s when trained correctly.
People that are diagnosed with “nodes” or “polyps” can in many cases avoid surgery with proper vocal techniques and vocal exercises.
Most singers have no idea what their “true” vocal range is. Many resign themselves to “lower” vocal registers because they do not know how to access their upper register.
Many female singers “flip” into their head voice registers too early which inhibits power in the mid voice.
The over-use of air is one of the biggest “enemies” of the voice.
When experiencing cold or flu, it is better to continue to “exercise” the voice with proper training which will maintain more consistent vocal health and lessen “down time” from singing.
The voice has a biological clock and likes to be warmed up at the same time every day.
Most singers have a much higher range than they realize but due to “panicking” they quickly “squeeze off the air in the throat” which seriously impedes and inhibits range.
A tenor can actually sing well into the soprano range when trained correctly.
A baritone can actually “stretch” his chest voice well into the tenor range safely.
Most people think that pushing more air is how volume is achieved which is not correct. It is achieved through proper resonance.
Throat sprays, Elixirs, Lozenges etc. can actually cause more harm than good. Most contain glycerin which is a substance that does coat the throat but it is a false sense of moisture and many times we “scrape” the chord with air to clear what feels like mucous on the chord because of this, which compounds the problem.
Mask is a part of a technique that uses the nasal and sinus cavities to push “resonance” to the front of the face (like smiling when you sing) which makes singing high notes easier especially when singing a wordy phrase.
The term diaphragm is actually not a correct term for proper air flow and pressure to be used when singing. Yes the breath is diaphragmatic, but the actual compression of air to sing and sustain high notes starts at the solar plexus all the way down to the lower abdominal muscles just above the groin (or pubic hairline). However, the name diaphragmatic support has stayed with us a term.
The best way to compress air is to hold your breath when you sing. The key to this is to not “restrict the throat” when “holding back this air. It is important to learn open throat singing first before attempting this.
There is a false idea that people are supposed to “sing without stress”. That would be like telling the athlete he is supposed to perform without stress. There will always be stress. It’s the management of stress and the overcoming of stress we condition for to keep us at our maximum.
Both male and female vocalists can create such a strong bridge between their “chest register” and their “head register” that it can literally create on long powerful note without a “break”.
Working the “passagio” or passage way (the break between chest and falsetto) can be built so strong that you can have a “mixed voice up to a full octave and greater depending on the size of the vocal folds (vocal chords)
The over annunciation of consonant sounds actually inhibits range and causes throat tension.
Less than 2% of the population is actually tone deaf. Most people can train their ear and their voice to stay on pitch. Even in cases of extreme hearing loss, this can be overcome
Most vocal teachers can’t actually sing themselves.
That when we sing, sound comes out of our mouths at approximately 750 miles per hour. It is 1/2200 second, from the time that the sound is made until it exits your mouth.
When we approach higher notes, sound pressure builds up in the head and often causes people to lose perspective of their pitch. Much like when we have head phones on and hear the same music in another room, which sounds “flat” compared to what we heard in our “pressure” headphones.
Most people think they can’t sing because they aren’t “naturally gifted”. It is true, some have more gifts than others, but its like walking. Almost everyone can walk if they try.

Íè÷åãî, êðîìå ôàêòîâ î ïåíèè

Ãîëîñ ìûøöû, è êàê ëþáàÿ ìûøöà â îðãàíèçìå ìîæåò ðàñòè è ñòàíîâèòüñÿ ñèëüíåå, äàæå â ñâîè 70-õ ãîäîâ, êîãäà îáó÷åíèå ïðàâèëüíî.
Ëþäè, êîòîðûå äèàãíîñòèðîâàíû ñ "óçëàìè" èëè "ïîëèïû" ìîæåò âî ìíîãèõ ñëó÷àÿõ èçáåæàòü õèðóðãè÷åñêîãî âìåøàòåëüñòâà ñ íàäëåæàùåé âîêàëüíîé òåõíèêè è âîêàëüíûå óïðàæíåíèÿ.
Áîëüøèíñòâî ïåâöîâ íå èìåþò íè ìàëåéøåãî ïðåäñòàâëåíèÿ, ÷òî èõ "èñòèííûé" âîêàëüíûé äèàïàçîí ÿâëÿåòñÿ. Ìíîãèå ñìèðÿþòñÿ ñ "íèçøèìè" âîêàëüíûõ ðåãèñòðîâ, ïîòîìó ÷òî îíè íå çíàþò, êàê ïîëó÷èòü äîñòóï ê âåðõíèì ðåãèñòðîì.
Ìíîãèå ïåâèö "ôëèï" â èõ ãîëîâû ãîëîñ ðåãèñòðèðóåò ñëèøêîì ðàíî, êîòîðûé èíãèáèðóåò âëàñòü â ñåðåäèíå ãîëîñà.
×ðåçìåðíîå èñïîëüçîâàíèå âîçäóõà ÿâëÿåòñÿ îäíèì èç ñàìûõ áîëüøèõ «âðàãîâ» ãîëîñà.
Ïðè âîçíèêíîâåíèè ïðîñòóäû èëè ãðèïïà, òî ëó÷øå ïðîäîëæàòü "óïðàæíåíèå" ãîëîñ ñ íàäëåæàùåé ïîäãîòîâêè, êîòîðàÿ áóäåò ïîääåðæèâàòü áîëåå ïîñëåäîâàòåëüíîé âîêàëüíîãî çäîðîâüÿ è óìåíüøèòü "âðåìÿ ïðîñòîÿ" îò ïåíèÿ.
Ãîëîñ èìååò áèîëîãè÷åñêèå ÷àñû è ëþáèò áûòü ðàçîãðåò â òî æå âðåìÿ êàæäûé äåíü.
Áîëüøèíñòâî ïåâöîâ èìåþò ãîðàçäî áîëåå âûñîêèé äèàïàçîí, ÷åì îíè ïîíèìàþò, íî èç-çà "ïàíèêîâàòü" îíè áûñòðî "ïåðåæèìà âîçäóõ â ãîðëå", êîòîðûé ñåðüåçíî ìåøàåò è òîðìîçèò äèàïàçîí.
Òåíîð äåéñòâèòåëüíî ìîæåò õîðîøî ïåòü â äèàïàçîíå ñîïðàíî, êîãäà îáó÷åíèå ïðàâèëüíî.
Áàðèòîí äåéñòâèòåëüíî ìîæåò "ðàñòÿíóòü" åãî ãîëîñ â ãðóäè õîðîøî â äèàïàçîíå òåíîðà áåçîïàñíî.
Áîëüøèíñòâî ëþäåé äóìàþò, ÷òî òîëêàåò áîëüøå âîçäóõà, êàê îáúåì äîñòèãàåòñÿ, êîòîðûé íå ÿâëÿåòñÿ ïðàâèëüíûì. Ýòî äîñòèãàåòñÿ çà ñ÷åò íàäëåæàùåãî ðåçîíàíñà.
Ãîðëî ñïðåè, ýëèêñèðû, ëåäåíöû è ò.ä. äåéñòâèòåëüíî ìîæåò ïðè÷èíèòü áîëüøå âðåäà, ÷åì ïîëüçû. Áîëüøèíñòâî ñîäåðæàò ãëèöåðèí, êîòîðûé ïðåäñòàâëÿåò ñîáîé âåùåñòâî, êîòîðîå äåëàåò ïàëüòî ãîðëî, íî ýòî ëîæíîå ÷óâñòâî âëàãè è ìíîãî ðàç ìû "ñêðåñòè" àêêîðä ñ âîçäóõîì, ÷òîáû î÷èñòèòü òî, ÷òî ÷óâñòâóåò, êàê ñëèçèñòàÿ íà àêêîðä èç-çà ýòîãî, ÷òî óñóãóáëÿåò ïðîáëåìó.
Ìàñêà ÿâëÿåòñÿ ÷àñòüþ ìåòîäèêè, èñïîëüçóþùåé íîñîâûõ è îêîëîíîñîâûõ ïàçóõ íàæàòü "Ðåçîíàíñ" â ïåðåäíåé ÷àñòè ëèöà (íàïðèìåð, óëûáàòüñÿ, êîãäà òû ïîåøü), ÷òî äåëàåò ïåíèå âûñîêèõ íîò ëåã÷å, îñîáåííî êîãäà ïîåò ìíîãîñëîâíûì ôðàçó.
Òåðìèí äèàôðàãìà íà ñàìîì äåëå íå ÿâëÿåòñÿ ïðàâèëüíûì òåðìèíîì äëÿ íàäëåæàùåãî âîçäóøíîãî ïîòîêà è äàâëåíèÿ, êîòîðûå áóäóò èñïîëüçîâàòüñÿ ïðè ïåíèè. Äà äûõàíèå äèàôðàãìàëüíîå, íî ôàêòè÷åñêîå ñæàòèå âîçäóõà, ÷òîáû ïåòü è ïîääåðæèâàòü âûñîêèå íîòû íà÷èíàåòñÿ â ñîëíå÷íîå ñïëåòåíèå âåñü ïóòü âíèç ê íèæíåé ÷àñòè áðþøíîé ìûøöû ÷óòü âûøå ïàõà (èëè ëîáêîâîé ðîñòà âîëîñ). Òåì íå ìåíåå, ïîääåðæêà èìåíè äèàôðàãìàëüíîå îñòàëñÿ ñ íàìè ñðîê.
Ëó÷øèé ñïîñîá äëÿ ñæàòèÿ âîçäóõà, ÷òîáû çàäåðæàòü äûõàíèå, êîãäà âû ïîåòå. Êëþ÷ ê ýòîìó, ÷òîáû íå "îãðàíè÷èòü ãîðëî", êîãäà "ñäåðæèâàë ýòîò âîçäóõ. Âàæíî íàó÷èòüñÿ îòêðûòîå ãîðëîâîå ïåíèå, ïðåæäå ÷åì ïûòàòüñÿ ýòî.
Ñóùåñòâóåò ëîæíàÿ èäåÿ, ÷òî ëþäè äîëæíû "ïåòü áåç ñòðåññà". Ýòî áûëî áû, êàê ãîâîðèò ñïîðòñìåí îí äîëæåí âûïîëíèòü áåç ñòðåññà. Òàì âñåãäà áóäåò ñòðåññ. Ýòî óïðàâëåíèå ñòðåññîì è ïðåîäîëåíèå ñòðåññà ìû óñëîâèåì äëÿ äåðæàòü íàñ íà íàøåì ìàêñèìóìå.
È ìóæñêèå è æåíñêèå âîêàëèñòû ìîãóò ñîçäàòü òàêîé ñèëüíûé ìîñò ìåæäó èõ "ðåãèñòðà ãðóäè" è èõ "ãîëîâû çàðåãèñòðèðîâàòü", ÷òî îí ìîæåò áóêâàëüíî ñîçäàòü íà äîëãîå ìîùíóþ íîòó áåç "ïåðåðûâà".
Ðàáîòàÿ â "passagio" èëè ïðîõîä ïóòü (ðàçðûâ ìåæäó ãðóäüþ è ôàëüöåò) ìîæåò áûòü ïîñòðîåíà íàñòîëüêî ñèëüíà, ÷òî âû ìîæåòå èìåòü "ñìåøàííûé ãîëîñ äî ïîëíîé îêòàâå è áîëüøå â çàâèñèìîñòè îò ðàçìåðà ãîëîñîâûõ ñâÿçîê (ãîëîñîâûõ ñâÿçîê)
Íàä Áëàãîâåùåíèå ñîãëàñíûõ çâóêîâ ôàêòè÷åñêè ïîäàâëÿåò äèàïàçîí è âûçûâàåò íàïðÿæåííîñòü â ãîðëå.
Ìåíåå 2% íàñåëåíèÿ íà ñàìîì äåëå ñëóõà. Áîëüøèíñòâî ëþäåé ìîãóò îáó÷àòü èõ ñëóõ è ãîëîñ, ÷òîáû îñòàòüñÿ íà ïîëå. Äàæå â ñëó÷àå êðàéíåé ïîòåðè ñëóõà, ýòî ìîæåò áûòü ïðåîäîëåíî
Áîëüøèíñòâî âîêàëüíûõ ó÷èòåëÿ íå ìîãóò íà ñàìîì äåëå ïîþò ñàìè.
Òî, êîãäà ìû ïîåì, çâóê èñõîäèò èç íàøèõ óñò ïðèáëèçèòåëüíî 750 ìèëü â ÷àñ. Ýòî 1/2200 âî-âòîðûõ, ñ òîãî âðåìåíè, çâóê ñäåëàí, ïîêà îí íå âûéäåò èç âàøåãî ðòà.
Êîãäà ìû ïîäõîäèì ê áîëåå âûñîêèå íîòû, çâóêîâîå äàâëåíèå íàêàïëèâàåòñÿ â ãîëîâå è ÷àñòî çàñòàâëÿåò ëþäåé òåðÿòü ïåðñïåêòèâó èõ ïîëÿ. Òàê æå, êàê êîãäà ó íàñ åñòü ãîëîâíûå òåëåôîíû íà è óñëûøàòü òó æå ìóçûêó â äðóãîé êîìíàòå, êîòîðàÿ çâó÷èò "ïëîñêèé" ïî ñðàâíåíèþ ñ òåì, ÷òî ìû ñëûøàëè â íàøèõ íàóøíèêàõ "äàâëåíèå".
Áîëüøèíñòâî ëþäåé äóìàþò, ÷òî îíè íå ìîãóò ïåòü, ïîòîìó ÷òî îíè íå ÿâëÿþòñÿ "ñàìîðîäîê". Ýòî ïðàâäà, íåêîòîðûå èç íèõ áîëüøå ïîäàðêîâ, ÷åì äðóãèå, íî, êàê õîäüáà. Ïî÷òè êàæäûé ÷åëîâåê ìîæåò õîäèòü, åñëè îíè ïûòàþòñÿ.

The amount of air pressure used and needed for rock singing is almost 3 times that of pop and country singing and 5 times that of jazz and most R&B.

The term diaphragm is actually not a correct term for proper air flow and pressure to be used when singing. Yes the breath is diaphragmatic, but the actual compression of air to sing and sustain high notes starts at the solar plexus all the way down to the lower abdominal muscles just above the groin (or pubic hairline). However, the name diaphragmatic support has stayed with us a term.

The best way to compress air is to hold your breath when you sing. The key to this is to not “restrict the throat” when “holding back this air. It is important to learn open throat singing first before attempting this.
