OK - thats actually standard on ALL of our guitars unless specifically requested otherwise ( like on 59 LP replicas and such)

what is the effect of having a guitar which is not for 100%
shielded?

body cavity shielding reduces the noise and hum  that can be induced in your guitar's wiring from outside sources (nearby electronic equipment or fluorescent lighting, for example...)

i put together a different mockup of the logo in 'silver mop' its ok, its hard to work it in MS paint, but does a rough job, enough for shamrays guys to have a look at and go from there, smoothing it out etc.

In that pic, all the vertical lines arent parallel, i would really like them to be parallel with each other, so the logo doesnt look wonkey etc,

example - the I and the T's main lines are running exactly straight with each other, i know im to blame, but i just dont want the inlay to come out wonky cause its the way i did it in paint.

This one is better.

I would guess it's because it's a neck through guitar and mr. Scanlan prefers the look of pure mahogany instead of the neck stripes behind the guitar.

thats a good guess, except that the entire guitar will be covered in gloss black lacquer.

Actually, Phil decided to make the guitar a little thicker than the original spec  - the final body thickness will be 50 mm

Thats right, all my guitars are around 40mm to 44mm thick, and i wanted something thicker :). I just dread how heavy its going to be to wear standing up... with that brazilian mahogany, normal mahogany back, and maple top, :S ill have to start working out. haha.

haha, well hopefully it will balance nicely, i was aiming for a bottom heavy guitar so the neck would point upward when playing standing up, so hopefully ive achieved that.

ok, heres what michael got from the shop...

note: on the pic of the heel carving, there is still an extra cut away to be carved in the lower horn, and dont worry bout all those discolourations, its just glue, it will be sanded or buffed out by the sounds of things.

Enjoy...i know i am,

More news and pics when i get them.

lookin good dude! lets indeed hope its just some glue or
something, and not something of the wood (which indeed i also
doubt)

btw: that extra mahogony-piece turned out to be quite nice-
looking! its really awesome.

actually, not glue, its some lacquer ( partly sanded off ) that was wiped on by hand creating that "discoloration" (all part of the ongoing process, very much "work-in-progress pics...)

it will be all sparkly clean In a few days (when the carving is done, and it gets prepped for painting...)  :)

i didnt get to the shop yesterday.. but the day before, i visited briefly and i didnt see it on the bench, which means it must have gone to the paint building! So yeah, I'd say that the heel is done now.  I'm going to try to get to the shop today, if i can manage to dig myself out of this mountain of paperwork :)

Today, I didnt get over to the paint shop (my wife gave me a lift today, and she was in a hurry to go to an appointment - so  i didnt hang around long) but Stepanov told me that it should be getting its last layer of lacquer tommorrow. Which means it will probably be polished and ready for completion around the middle of next week  :)

I will be taking the 'metro' ('Subway', 'Tube', etc) to the shop tommorrow, and thus will be able to hang around there all day and look into all the details i didnt get time for today! So expect some interesting pics late tommorrow evening!

what you noticed in the pictures are just paint flecks from the color coat -  they will be cleaned off when the binding is scraped (prior to clearcoats)

what scraping part? the heel carving? Gibson doesnt offer my kind of heel carving on ANY models, the only model that comes close is the Neil Schon, and even then, i got more carving lol.
