seeming we cant edit our posts, ill just add this, why is the headstock black? I got the impression that this was a complete replica of hets eetfuk explorer, i mean especially with the headstock having paint missing etc,

i have many pics of this guitar, if you were after a complete replica it would be interesting to see how the finished product matched up with the original.

Yes, the Headstock will be white as well! It will have a large area of missing paint on the headstock (like the real EETFUK later had).

Just a typo! i had accidentally posted the preliminary version of the workorder (not the final one).

The front and back of the headstock will look like the pic attached here!

(BTW - we wont actually BREAK the headstock, but we will be simulating the two "splices" on the back...)

hey, extremely nice, but i have some questions and comments about the specs!

Material for neck: Mahogany, profile to be ESP Thin "U" (but not too thin!)

how many pieces?

Material for fretboard: Rosewood (darkest available) .. 320mm radius

320mm radius?? how much is that in inches?

Nut: DELRIN

What is delrin??

Strap buttons: standard (set of 2) black

why no strap locks while you're at it?

Neck pickup: EMG 60
Bridge pickup: EMG 81
9V battery: 9V alkaline 1 pc

have you considered the 18 V method for EMGs, 100% pof the comments about it that i have heard were positive, ive never heard anyone saying they didnt like it, and ive also never heard people switching back to 9V...

I can answer a couple of those questions...

The neck is 3 pieces (its our proprietary neck construction)

320mm is about 12.6 inches (or about the same as a typical Les Paul)

Delrin is a kind of polymer that is SELF LUBRICATING. Its basically equivalent to a GRAPHTECH nut, except that it is WHITE in color. Highly recommended for any instrument that doesnt have a "straight-string-pull" design, when you want to retain the appearance of a traditional white nut.

I dont need Strap buttons. Keep it simple!

18V method? What's that? I dont think I need this either. Moreover I wont hava a batterybox so it would be quite difficult to get another battery in the control cavity....

imo strap locks are simpler than regular strap buttons, but whatever.

if you've never heard of the 18 volt stuff for EMGs i think it's definately worth checking it out.

We have wired a number of EMG-equipped instruments with 18V, and - as the EMG site implies - it really makes very little difference in performance.

The "headroom" is most noticable on BASSES, because those BIG strings make generate a little more 'oomph' inside the pickups.

But we've never had any complaints about the EMG system running 9 volts (which is indeed what it was designed for)

update:

first color coat is done... next: a clear-coat, and a long period of lacquer curing before headstock lacquer gets "distressed". (chipped away in places) Then... artwork, final clearcoats and polishing.

Stepanov estimates completing will take place about January 20th.

Is that a form of 'distressing' the finish, or are they in the process of removing it?

Yes, its 'distressing"! :-) Only "bits" of the finish are being removed, to simulate the original 'EETFUK' guitar (which had a roughly repaired broken headstock...)

good to meet you here. Thanks for collecting all that information about Metallica's Gear. That helped me quite a few times. Especially with this guitar!

Not much to report here, either. Its either still waiting for final polishing, or just hanging in Dudnik's cubicle because there is no room for it in the completing room.

It looks very nice, but until Stepanov gets back to work (or Mr. Shamray takes over the day-to-day shop management) I cannot say with any certainty what the actual completing - inspecting - packing - shipping timeline will look like :-(
